The Minister for Building Issues announced the review of the New Zealand Building Code at the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand Conference on 27 May.

The Building Code will be reviewed over 3 years, with input from consumers, the building industry, and central and local government. The purpose of the review is to ensure the Building Code meets the requirements of the new Building Act. The review will be completed by 30 November 2007.

Media release from the Minister for Building Issues.

Discussion document available for public comment The Department of Building and Housing is encouraging consumers, the building sector and those with an interest in buildings that are safe, healthy and promote wellbeing and sustainable development to review its discussion document Building for the 21st Century – Review of the Building Code which is open for submissions until 31 August 2006.

We now have an opportunity to shape the future of our buildings and ensure they deliver the right social, economic and environmental outcomes for us as building users and as a nation. The review represents a significant leap forward in what the Building Code can do for the country. Once the review is completed, there will be different performance standards for buildings. We therefore encourage everyone in the building sector to view the discussion document.
