The landlords' national body wants require all landlords to be trained, registered and certified. This is a gross infringement of the liberty of owners, an invitation to nanny state to meddle and is counter-productive.
The result of such a regulation would be that reasonable landlords; able to understand the simple requirements of the Residential Tenancies Act and to manage their properties, will be subsidising the greedy, ignorant and lazy. The costs of reasonable landlords will be increased, and tenants will tend to be the losers.
This over regulation has to be stopped before we are saddled with yet another well-meaning but ill-considered law.
